BRDC Rising Star
One of the most prestigious accolades any young racing driver can wish to add to their racing CV is the ‘Rising Star’ which is awarded by the Silverstone-based British Racing Drivers’ Club.
Young racers receive Rising Star status on an invitation-only basis, emphasising the importance of the accolade which highlights the most outstanding talent emerging from the UK every year.
Jeremy Metcalfe became a BRDC Rising Star at the beginning of 2007, having been invited for interview at the world-famous club at the end of the previous year.
The initiative was established in 2000 and put in place to recognise those competitors between 14 and 24 years of age adjudged by a BRDC panel to have displayed excellence in motorsport.
“Being awarded BRDC Rising Star status is superb”, says Jeremy, “Finishing fifth in Formula Renault UK and winning the DPRAC Cup were great achievements in 2006 but to then be named a McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finalist and to be invited by the BRDC to be a Rising Star was the icing on the cake.
“It’s an amazing privilege to be part of the British Racing Drivers’ Club. The BRDC is a fantastic place and being a Rising Star will mean an incredible amount for me as I progress my career. I would like to express immense gratitude to all at the BRDC.”
