KARTING
Literally 90 per cent of drivers begin their racing careers in karting, but very few manage to attain the heights of the like achieved by Jeremy during his glittering tenure on the domestic, European and world stage.
Even less are able to name a current Formula One star and a DTM Champion as being pivotal
in their career development though, with the addition of essential guidance from former
World Karting Champion Terry Fullerton.
Not only were Jenson Button (pictured left with Jeremy and his father Robert Metcalfe) and his
father John instrumental in Jeremy’s early karting success, he also received assistance from Gary
Paffett (below) who later went on, of course, to become a McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of
the Year Award Winner and took an incredible title victory in the 2005 DTM series.
Success has never been far away from Jeremy in one guise or another and from the beginnings of
his career at just eight years of age, he soon became one to watch in the realms of domestic competition and took just four years to win his first major karting title – the 2000 MSA British Cadet Karting Championship.
It wasn’t long before he made the move to the pressure-cooker environment of Europe and quickly
made a name for himself as a consistent front-runner in the European Formula ICA Championship.
The crowning glory of his karting career arrived in 2003, Jeremy winning the world-renowned
Parma Industrials Formula A Championship – a title previously held by some of the biggest names
in motorsport, including Formula One ace Giancarlo Fisichella.
To add to his success at Parma, Jeremy finished third overall in
the British Formula ICA Championship and was again classified
third in the prestigious British Formula A Championship.
His final year of karting came in 2004 and after impressing in the ultra-competitive South Garda
Winter Cup with a terrific eighth position, Jeremy also took a top-six placing in Italian Formula A.
With his successful karting career complete, Jeremy headed into 2005 to face a completely new c challenge - the world of single-seater motor racing.
